- John Pattaras, MD, FACS is a urologic oncologist based in Atlanta, GA, specializing in robotics, minimally invasive surgery and surgical oncology. He completed his medical education and various residencies and fellowships, including urologic surgical oncology at the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center and laparoscopy/endourology at Saint Louis University. Dr. Pattaras holds positions as a James C. Kennedy Chair of Prostate Surgery and Professor at Emory University School of Medicine, where he has been instrumental since 2000. His clinical experience spans prostate cancer, renal (kidney) oncology, adrenalectomy, urologic oncology, and minimally invasive urologic surgery. He has taught hundreds of physicians and student physicians in his more than 30 years of experience in academic urology. He started the robotics and minimally invasive programs at Emory University hospital as well as one of the highest volume robotic prostate and kidney surgeons in the country.
He has contributed to dozens of peer reviewed publications and led clinical trials. Notably, he has received multiple honors, including being named an Atlanta Top Doctor from 2016 to 2024.
