Karen Schwenk Johnson MD

Summary

• Karen is a Professor of Radiology and the Chief of Breast Imaging in the Department of Radiology at Duke University Hospital. She attended Miami University in Oxford, OH where she earned a Bachelor’s of Science and a Bachelor’s of Art in Zoology and German respectively, as well as a Master’s of Science in Neuroanatomy. Karen then went on to Loyola University’s Stritch School of Medicine where she earned her M.D. before completing a residency in diagnostic radiology at The George Washington University Hospital in Washington DC where she served as Chief Resident from 2006-2007. Karen completed a fellowship in Breast Imaging at Duke and joined the Duke faculty in 2009. She is the recipient of multiple teaching awards, a fellow in the Society of Breast Imaging, the former Director of the Duke Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program and the current Division Chief of Breast Imaging. She resides in Chapel Hill, NC with her husband and two children.
