Summary

  • Dr. Komron Ostovar completed his Internal Medicine residency and served as Chief Resident at the Danbury Medical Center in Danbury, CT before joining its medical staff where he began his career as a hospitalist. He later moved to Cooperstown, NY and became the Associate Chief of Hospital Medicine at Bassett Medical Center. In that role he was a strong advocate for multidisciplinary problem solving, partnering with anyone willing to work on patient care issues. He participated in and led hospital-wide projects to improve readmissions (including a lead role in the Society of Hospital Medicine’s Project BOOST), patient experience, physician communication, geographic care, and patient flow.

He has been involved with resident and student education throughout his career. He is the recipient of the Golden Apple Award, given by the Bassett Internal Medicine residents to the faculty member they felt was their most outstanding teacher. He is the Associate Clerkship Director of Internal Medicine for the Columbia-Bassett program and holds academic appointment through Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons.

Dr. Ostovar was named Bassett Medical Center’s Chief of the Hospital Medicine Division in January 2020, three weeks before the word “coronavirus” was spoken from the Grand Rounds podium. He was a key leader charged with the medical center’s inpatient CoVID-19 surge plan, helping design and implement the expansion of critical care services to new hospital areas, staffing, and the myriad issues required to meet the pandemic’s challenges.

Dr. Ostovar has been caring for hospitalized patients over 20 years and is ABIM Board Certified in Internal Medicine with a Focused Practice in Hospital Medicine. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians as well as a Senior Fellow of the Society of Hospital Medicine.
