  • Laurel K. Leslie, MD, MPH is the inaugural Institute Director for the Cincinnati Children's Mental and Behavioral Institute which combines the divisions of Behavioral Medicine and Clinical Psychology, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics. Services range from prevention programs in the community and schools to a 99-bed inpatient/resident mental health hospital.

    Dr. Leslie graduated from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill School of Medicine; completed her pediatrics residency at the University of California, San Francisco (USCF), and completed a fellowship in Developmental Behavioral Pediatrics jointly at UCSF and the University Of California, San Diego. She served as a Research Scientist with the Child and Adolescent Services Research Center at Rady Children's Hospital from 1997-2006, as an Associate Professor/Professor in Medicine and Pediatrics at Tufts University School of Medicine from 2007-2015, and the Vice President for Research at the American Board of Pediatrics from 2015 through February 2025.

    She is committed to interdisciplinary models of care that include broad stakeholder engagement in user-centric design, including the incorporation of patient and parent/caregiver perspectives. She also has an extensive history of consulting with regional and state agencies and organizations around behavioral, developmental, and mental health care for children, adolescents, and young adults. She also has led several major research studies and mutliple leadership development initiatives focused on pediatric workforce adequacy and well-being.
