Summary

• Matthew Swain, DO, is a family medicine specialist based in Ukiah, CA, with subspecialties in hospital medicine, pediatric hospital care, and rural health. He completed his medical education at the Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine of Midwestern University in 2004, followed by family medicine internship at Naval Hospital in Pensacola. He served as general medical officer for a USMC infantry battalion in Iraq and then completed family medicine training at Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune. Professionally, he served as the Chief of Primary Care for the Alaska VA, served as a full spectrum family medicine physician at a the rural critical access South Peninsula Hospital, Homer, AK. He led a FQHC as CMO for Mendocino Community Health Centers, and is currently the Program Director at Adventist Health Ukiah Valley Family Medicine Residency. He is a 2026 graduate of the National Institute for Program Director Development. Dr. Swain was recognized as a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Practice in 2024.
