Summary

  • Myron L Weisfeldt is Professor of Medicine at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. I was the Osler Professor and Chair of the Department of Medicine at Johns Hopkins from 2001 to 2014. I served for a decade as Chair of the Department of Medicine Columbia University, College of Physicians and Surgeons. I received the MD degree from Hopkins and trained in Cardiology at the National Institutes of Health and the Massachusetts General Hospital. From 1975 to 1991 I was Director of Cardiology at Hopkins and was President of the American Heart Association in 1990. I am a member of the National Academy of Medicine. My research interests have included heart function, age changes in the heart and circulation, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. I led the effort of the American Heart Association to develop and test Automatic External Defibrillators for bystander use. From 2003-2019 I was Study Chair for an NIH and US Army sponsored international network to conduct randomized trials of devices, drugs and other therapies for out-of-hospital cardiac arrest and severe traumatic injury. During my tenure as Chair at Johns Hopkins I began the first program in Urban-Focused Primary Care Training for physicians in the US. In 2022 I received an American Heart Association national award for Mentoring: The Eugene Braunwald Mentoring Award.
