Summary
- I am an obgyn who came to Volusia County in 1992 with two lofty goals: to provide prenatal care to all women regardless of socioeconomic or high risk status and to promote medical education with community engagement. Through networking with our hospitals, health department and other social organizations I have been privileged to attempt the former, and through our regional campus of the FSU College of Medicine, which I participated in creating, I have loved doing the latter. Out of necessity, I have developed the infrastructure and knowledge to care for women with substance use disorder and dual diagnoses of mental health disorder/SUD. This is incredibly rewarding and I am hoping to impact our physicians in training to include this population in their care--regardless of their specialties and realize that to treat their patients, they need to understand their experiences, traumas and life conditions. They will then make a meaningful impact and find they truly love what they can accomplish.
