Summary
- I am a board-certified otolaryngologist with military operational, administrative and academic experience with the US Air Force, Veterans Administration and UNLV School of Medicine. I completed my residency training at Portsmouth Naval Medical Center after serving as a flight surgeon (deployed primary physician of flyers) during Gulf War I and conducting DoD research at the USAF School of Aerospace Medicine.
I enjoy treating all age patients for routine head and diseases including otitis media, tonsils and adenoids, nasal septoplasty, balloon and conventional FESS, thyroid FNA and open biopsy/total thyroidectomy. I also enjoy diagnosing balance disorders and interpreting balance tests based on research experience at Armstrong Laboratory, Brooks AFB. I hold a Senior Flight Surgeon rating from the USAF and fly privately.
My primary career interest has been to remain clinical but I am open to leadership responsibility and have experience with residency program development and hospital administration.
I am a founding faculty member of the ENT residency at UNLV where I was instrumental in Residency Review Committee site inspections, curriculum development, resident remediation, surgical and didactic instruction and mentoring. I am a strong resident advocate and have readied over 200 academic lectures based on contingency operations, case reports and chapters from Cummings and Baileys Otolaryngology textbooks.
I have previously served as a primary care physician to US and coalition service members at remote clinics in the Middle East, Central and South America. I have experience conducting occupational health inspections at the largest USAF logistics center at Tinker AFB, Oklahoma City and flight fitness recommendations to the USAF Chief of Staff at the Aeromedical Consult Service. I also served as a member of the US Navy‘s IRB, USAF ENT Clinic chief(s) and Chief of Surgery for the Michael O’Callaghan Federal Hospital.
