Dr. Svitra's research focused on advancing retinal care, completing a fellowship in Ophthalmic Pathology, holding faculty positions at both Harvard, MIT and the Brookhaven National Laboratory. His work in advanced techniques in treatment of retinal conditions, as well as ocular oncology, with laser, ultrasound, and ocular imaging has been supported by the NIH and the National Society to Prevent Blindness.
Dr. Svitra's research has been widely published in peer-reviewed journals, with contributions to major textbooks and presentations at both national and international conferences. He also conducted clinical trials for innovations in treatment of diabetic retinopathy. He has been recognized with awards from the Heed Foundation and Fight for Sight.
Dr. Svitra served as full-time faculty and physician in charge of vitreo-retinal diseases and surgery at North Shore Hospital, then affiliated with Cornell Medical College. After a distinguished career in both academia and private practice, Dr. Svitra is a retina specialist with SightMD. He extended his expertise to underserved areas of Long Island community providing retinal care to patients with diabetes and other serious eye conditions. His hospital affiliations included North Shore, LIJ, NYU Langone-Winthrop, Mercy, Glen Cove, South Nassau, and Franklin General.
He has been acknowledged as one of the top doctors on Long Island and the New York Metro Area and has received multiple honors, including the Lifetime Fellowship Recognition from the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
