- Rebecca Petersen MD, MSc, FACS is a board-certified general surgeon and Associate Professor of Surgery. Dr. Petersen is the Program Director for the General and Preliminary Surgery Residency Program.
Dr. Petersen has extensive expertise in minimally invasive gastrointestinal surgery including laparoscopic and robotic approaches. She has completed a fellowship in MIS foregut and bariatric surgery at University of Washington and spent two years doing thoracic oncology research during her training at Duke. Dr. Petersen also has a Master of Science in Epidemiology from the Harvard School of Public Health. Dr. Petersen’s clinical interests include: advanced laparoscopy, gastrointestinal disorders, complex abdominal wall hernia repair and reconstruction, in addition to inguinal, femoral, sports, chronic groin pain and hiatal hernias.
