He completed his residency and chief residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery at the University of Michigan Health System from 1973 to 1976. Dr. Burke earned his medical degree from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine in 1980, followed by an internship at St Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor and a fellowship in aesthetic and cosmetic surgery at Graduate Hospital Philadelphia between 1990 and 1992. His professional accolades include serving as President of the American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and being recognized in Whos Who in Medicine and Healthcare by Marquis Whos Who, and as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
    He served as president of the Washtenaw County Medical Society, Secretary of the St.Joseph Mercy hospital department of plastic surgery, Secretary of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, and two term treasurer of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery.
    A Fellow of the International College of Surgeons, he served as co director for the Michigan section.
    An academician as well as surgeon, he was appointed both Professor Emeritus of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and Professor Emeritus of Facial Plastic Surgery by the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. His associations have included Adjunct Research Scientist at the university of Michigan Center for Human Growth and Development, Adjunct Clinical Professor of Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Michigan, and co director of aesthetic and cosmetic surgery education of the Cosmetic Surgery Section of Graduate Hospital.
