Summary
- I am a practicing General Surgeon at the Portland VA. I currently focus on surgical oncology and common general surgery problems. In March 2020 I had nearly finished robotic training, and well, with the shut down, pivoted to administrative roles. My interests here are peer review, promoting high functioning teams ("high reliability") as a way to foster employee/patient experience and foster safety while countering the effects of burnout.
I graduated from Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine in 1990 and completed residency and fellowship at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU Health). Since 1998, I have served as a Staff Physician at Portland VA HCS. In my early career, I authored several publications, including articles relating to sepsis, trauma care, and later cardiovascular regulation.
