- Robert Simpson, MD is an orthopaedic surgeon located in Fort Walton Beach, FL with subspecialties in orthopedic trauma. He enlisted in the US Navy as a Seaman Recruit in 1977, eventually training as a Combat Medic and serving with the US Marines. He was selected a sSailor of the Year in 1980 for his support of Alpha Company, 1st Btn 25th Marines. He graduated in 1988 from Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences F. Edward Hebert School of Medicine. After completing an Internship in General Surgery, he served as a shipboard Medical Officer aboard the USS Kalamazoo (AOR-6) and was decorated for service during Operation Desert Storm. He was chosen for Fellowship training at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, and he later served as the Director of Orthopaedic Trauma at the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth Virginia until retirement in 2004. He then accepted a sequence of academic teaching positions at Penn State Hershey Medical Center, SUNY Upstate University Hospital, and Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine. He served as a Trauma Medical Director at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center, then Director of the Orthopaedic Trauma Service at Trinity Health of New England Medical Group and Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center from 2019-2022. Dr. Simpson has experience in a variety of traumatology specialities including pelvic and acetabular fracture management, complex hip and knee surgery, and hand, wrist, shoulder, and elbow traumatology. He has also contributed to the field with multiple publications in esteemed journals such as The Journal of Arthroplasty and Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma, Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, and Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research. He has been recognized as a Fellow by the American College of Surgeons, is a Fellow of the American College of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and Society of Military Orthopaedic Surgeons.
