Summary
- Rogerio Izar Neves, MD, PhD, FACS is a physician-scientist specialized in melanoma and other cutaneous malignancies. He received his medical degree from the Faculdade de Medicina do ABC in Sao Paulo, Brazil, completed his residencies in general surgery and plastic and reconstructive surgery at the Hospital das Clinicas of the University of Sao Paulo School of Medicine and then continued with 2 research fellowships at Penn State University College of Medicine and at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, followed by a PhD in medicine (surgery) at the University of Sao Paulo.
He joined the University of São Paulo as Assistant Professor of Surgery in 1993, became the Director of the Skin Oncology Department at the A.C. Camargo Cancer Center in Sao Paulo, Brazil in 1997 and joined the Division of Plastic Surgery at the Penn State University in 2007 as Associate Professor of Surgery. He has received joint appointments in the Department of Dermatology (2007), Department of Pharmacology (2008) and Department of Medicine - Oncology (2009) and promoted to Full Professor in 2012. In 2021 he was recruited to be the Reconstructive Oncology Program leader at the Moffitt Cancer Center, FL.
He is an active member of the American and Brazilian Societies of Plastic Surgery, American Society of Clinical Oncology, Society of Surgical Oncology, Society for Melanoma Research, American College of Surgeons and American Association of Plastic Surgeons among others. In addition, he serves on several university- and hospital-related committees.
Dr Neves has received numerous grants for scientific and clinical research studies. Co-editor of a textbook on dermoscopy and author of many textbook chapters, Dr Neves serves on the editorial board of 3 medical journals and his work have been widely published in peer-reviewed journals. He is a frequent invited lecturer and presenter at national and international medical and scientific meetings around the world.
