  • Ronald is a board-certified colorectal surgeon with a focus on minimally invasive and improved recovery techniques for colorectal cancer patients. He is the Chief of Colon and Rectal Surgery at Brigham Women’s Hospital and has also been the Associate Chair of Surgery for Quality and Safety since 2017. He is the Co-Director of the Colorectal Cancer Clinic at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and an Associate Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School. Ronald also shares his experience and knowledge by contributing his time to numerous committees including serving as President, Research Foundation of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgery.

    Ronald is acutely aware of the physical and emotional needs of a patient. It is an emphasis for him to consider each patient as the individual they are, with individual needs based on the diagnosis and the stage of the disease. He works with colleagues from medical oncology, radiation oncology, radiology, pathology and social work to come up with comprehensive plan for the patient. In addition, Ronald is very sensitive to the emotional impact a colorectal cancer diagnosis can be for patients. He thoroughly explains the complete treatment plan and emphasizes that the treatment process is marathon, not a sprint. He counsels the patient to pace themselves through the process. For surgery, Ronald uses his clinical experience and surgical acumen to provide thorough patient care with minimally invasive techniques and enhance recovery protocols. Ronald has been nominated “Top Doctor” for 20 years from Castle Connolly up to and including 2023 and as a Top Doctor in Boston Magazine for over the past decade.
