Summary
- Dr. Roy Flood is a board-certified Interventional Cardiologist with more than 25 years of experience caring for patients with cardiovascular disease. Throughout his career, he has earned a reputation for clinical excellence, compassionate care, and consistently positive patient outcomes.
A Morehead-Cain Scholar, Dr. Flood earned both his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill before training and practicing at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC, one of the nation's premier cardiovascular institutions.
He later brought his expertise to the U.S. Virgin Islands, where he played a pioneering role in establishing the territory's first cardiac catheterization laboratory. Concurrently, he developed one of the region's most respected cardiology practices, expanding access to specialized heart care for residents and tourists alike while reducing the need for patients to travel to the mainland for advanced cardiac services.
Today, Dr. Flood serves as Chief of Cardiology at SouthCoast Health and Medical Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at St. Joseph's/Candler Hospital in Savannah, Georgia. Throughout his career, he has performed tens of thousands of cardiac procedures, held numerous leadership positions, and remained deeply committed to education, mentorship, and advancing cardiovascular care.
His clinical interests include acute coronary syndromes, cardiogenic shock, coronary artery disease in African Americans, and exercise and sports cardiology.
Known for his approachable style and dedication to patient education, Dr. Flood created The Cardiologist Next Door, an educational platform dedicated to answering real-world heart-health questions in a way that is informative, accessible, and free of judgment.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Flood is an avid cyclist, runner, and Tar Heel enthusiast. He and his wife are proud parents of two daughters and enjoy long walks with Luca, their West Highland Terrier.
