• Russell R. Lonser, M.D., is Chair of the Department of Neurological Surgery and Director of the Gene Therapy Institute at the Ohio State University. Prior to coming to the Ohio State University, he was Chief of the Surgical Neurology Branch at National Institutes of Health. Dr. Lonser's research interests include development of drug delivery paradigms for nervous system gene therapy, device development and investigating neoplasia pathogenesis in familial tumor suppressor syndromes. He has authored over 300 papers and edited 5 textbooks. He is a co-inventor on patents for methods for convection-enhanced delivery of therapeutic agents and gene therapy delivery to the nervous system. He has co-founded 4 companies in gene therapy and drug delivery. His contributions to organized neurosurgery include serving as President of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons. He serves as Director-at-Large on the American Association of Neurological Surgeons Board of Directors. He is the Past-Chair of the American Board of Neurological Surgeons and Washington Committee. He is President-Elect of the American Academy of Neurological Surgery. He served as Chair of the Research Committee on the Head, Neck and Spine Committee for the National Football League for 10 years.
