Viraj sees up to 40+ patients per shift that are 18 years of age and younger and is the lead physician on shift, managing team sizes of up to 7 (including other providers, Advanced Practice Providers, and clinical staff).
In addition to Viraj's clinical duties, she is part of the 5-member Texas Children's Urgent Care Provider Leadership Team focusing on leading quality improvement and provider education across a network of 13 facilities across Texas for 50+ providers (over 100 with per diem providers). Her efforts focus on improving the quality and consistency of the care delivered by this provider network. As a leader, Viraj has contributed to the growth of the urgent care network (from 3 to 13 facilities), initiated the telemedicine practice at the start of the COVID pandemic (as part of 6-member team), and developed COVID safety protocols for provider network.
Viraj has volunteered for two international NGOs, leading a public healthcare campaign in Indonesia and working with refugees (including mothers and babies) in Naples, Italy.
Prior to Texas Children's, Viraj worked as a in-classroom educator through Teach for America for low income students in the Rio Grande Valley in Texas.
Specific accomplishments: authored several articles for Texas Children's Hospital, onboarded over 20 new physicians/APPs, revamped clinical education and workflow resources, co-led scheduling and operations groups, conducting chart reviews for grievances.
