Overview of Dr. Strong
Dr. Vivian Strong is a surgical oncologist at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, specializing in gastric cancer, gastrointestinal stromal tumors, and adrenal tumors. She is internationally recognized for her expertise in minimally invasive approaches, including robotic gastrectomy and robotic adrenalectomy, and has performed more than 1,000 gastric cancer operations and hundreds of adrenal operations.
Dr. Strong earned her medical degree from Weill Cornell Medicine, followed by surgical residency training at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell and advanced laparoscopic fellowship training at both Cornell and Columbia University. Since joining MSK in 2005, she has combined a high-volume surgical practice with leadership in clinical trials evaluating gastric cancer biology and innovative surgical techniques.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Strong has authored more than 150 peer-reviewed publications and is frequently invited to lecture internationally. She serves as Vice Chair of Surgery at MSKCC and holds the Iris Cantor Endowed Chair in Surgery. She is also Associate Dean of Affiliations and Professor of Surgery at Weill Cornell Medicine, where she plays a key role in surgical education and mentorship.
Dr. Strong has been recognized as a “Super Doctor” and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Her career is dedicated to advancing surgical innovation, improving outcomes for patients with gastric cancer, and training the next generation of surgeons.
