Summary

  • Dr. Fred Southwick received his BA from Yale College, and M.D. from Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons. He received his clinical training at Boston City Hospital and the Massachusetts General Hospitals in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases, and served on the faculty at Harvard University and the University of Pennsylvania before serving as Chief of Infectious Diseases at the University of Florida for 19 years. He has been an active NIH funded biomedical investigator for over 30 years. He is the author of "Infectious Diseases: A Clinical Short Course", Lange Series McGraw-Hill, 3rd edition 2014. From 2010-2011 he was an Advanced Leadership Fellow at the Harvard Business School, and authored the book “Critically Ill: A 5-point plan to cure healthcare delivery.” Southwick Press 2014 He is teaching 2 massive open online course (MOOC) through the University of Florida and Coursera entitled: Fixing Healthcare Delivery (> 25,000 students from 150 countries) and Fixing Healthcare Delivery 2.0: Advanced Lean He recently became a Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS)
