
Overview of Dr. Scott
Joseph Scott, DO, is a Psychiatrist based in South Portland, ME. He earned a B.S. in Psychology from Northeastern University, Boston, MA and graduated a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine. During that time Joe was also employed at UNECOM as a Prosector and TA for the Gross Anatomy class for Physician Assistant Students as well as a Peer Tutor for Gross Anatomy and Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment. Joe became Chief Intern at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey & Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Camden, N.J. and completed his residency in psychiatry at Rowan COM/Kennedy Memorial Hospital, Cherry Hill, NJ.
Dr. Scott served as an Outpatient Attending Psychiatrist with Maine Behavioral Healthcare in Outpatient Offices in Biddeford and Sanford, ME, where he was quickly named the Regional Medical Director. He served the community of Southern Maine in the MBH Partial Hospitalization Program, the Inpatient Mental Health Unit at Southern Maine Medical Center and he organized MBH’s Integrated Medication-Assisted (Addiction) Treatment Program of Sanford, ME. Dr. Scott was selected as the first Medical Director of the Behavioral Health Unit of Southern Maine Medical Center, Sanford.
Dr. Scott has authored and co-authored published articles on subjects ranging from schizophrenia terminology and over-the-counter supplements to the use of transesophageal echocardiography in aortic dissection in the operating room.
Dr. Joe is now doing what he enjoys most, working as a community psychiatrist with LifeStance Health in South Portland, ME, where he sees patients from 11 years of age up and works with all populations, Veterans, LGBTQ+, TBI and Addiction medicine to name a few.
