Summary
- Keerthana Akkineni, MD, is a double-board-certified neurologist specializing in epilepsy. She felt called to medicine by a desire to serve others in their most vulnerable moments and to apply scientific precision to help restore whole-person health. She chose neurology because it touches the core of what makes us human — cognition, movement, language and identity.
Dr. Akkineni earned her medical degree from the P.S.G. Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, followed by a neurology internship and residency at the Houston Methodist Hospital Stanley H. Appel Neurology Residency Program in the Texas Medical Center. She then completed a clinical neurophysiology fellowship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, aliated with Harvard Medical School, where she focused on women’s health and epilepsy, as well as critical care EEG monitoring.
Before joining AdventHealth, Dr. Akkineni served as Clinical Director of inpatient and emergency neurology services, Chair of the Neurology Quality and Patient Safety Committee, and Associate Program Director for the Neurology Residency Program at Vanderbilt University Medical
Center. Board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Dr. Akkineni has contributed to numerous publications and presentations. Dr. Akkineni also serves as the Neurology Residency Program Director at AdventHealth Tampa, where she is passionate about training the next generation of neurologists and has received multiple teaching awards. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, reading, traveling and adventuring with her dog, Axon.
