Summary
- Ralph Salimpour, M.D., D.C.H., F.A.A.P., has practiced medicine for 63 years on three continents, dedicating his life to children and their care. Currently a clinical professor of pediatrics at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, he is the founder of the Salimpour Pediatric Medical Group in Los Angeles.
Dr. Salimpour is a native of Iran and received his medical degree from Shiraz University of Medical Sciences, then completed his residency and fellowship in England at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital and the Duchess of York Hospital for Babies. He received his diploma in child health from England’s Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons. In 1979, after immigrating with his family to the United States where he completed a fellowship in pediatric infectious disease at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. While in Iran, Dr. Salimpour's research in the areas of neonatal tetanus, malnutrition and rickets led him to establish and direct Her Royal Highness’ Research Institute of Child Health. In that role, he described for the first time how children living in tropical countries, developed Vitamin D deficiency rickets — pioneering research that helped change American Academy of Pediatrics’ recommendation for Vitamin D supplementation in breastfed babies.
