Summary

  • Dr. Nazarian serves as Professor in the Cardiac Electrophysiology section of the Department of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine. Dr. Nazarian obtained his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Stanford University School of Medicine. He completed his residency training in internal medicine at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital of Harvard Medical School. He then completed serial fellowships in Cardiology and Cardiac Electrophysiology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, joining the faculty upon completion. He went on to earn a Doctorate of Philosophy in Clinical Epidemiology at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Dr. Nazarian served on the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine Cardiac Electrophysiology faculty for over 9 years before joining the Perelman School of Medicine faculty. Dr. Nazarian’s research and clinical interests include:
    •    Imaging the anatomy of atrial and ventricular arrhythmia substrates
    •    Optimal catheter ablation strategies for complex arrhythmia
    •    Arrhythmia risk in patients with neurologic disease
Dr. Nazarian is an active investigator in the field of cardiac electrophysiology and is particularly interested in integration of advanced imaging modalities for optimization of procedural success for ablation of complex ventricular arrhythmia in structural heart disease. He has published extensively on the anatomy of the ventricular arrhythmia substrate. He oversees a team of individuals dedicated to facilitating ventricular arrhythmia research and clinical care. In 2013, he was awarded a National Institutes of Health to characterize the substrate for malignant arrhythmia. He is an appointed member of the Heart Rhythm Journal editorial board, the official journal of the Heart Rhythm Society. He is also a fellow of the American Heart Association, American College of Cardiology, and the Heart Rhythm Society.
