  • Shabnam Jain, MD, MPH is based in Atlanta, GA, and specializes in Pediatric Emergency Medicine. She also holds an MPH in Health Outcomes from Emory University. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and member of the American Pediatric Society.

    Dr Jain has been passionate about evidence based care and resource stewardship throughout her career and this has been her QI, research, and teaching focus. Institutionally, she oversees the development, dissemination, and implementation of evidence based guidelines to improve the quality of emergency care delivered to children while also reducing waste and more importantly preventing avoidable harm. She chairs the MOC portfolio with 8 successful MOC Part 4 QI projects. She created the QI course for Emory’s pediatric residents and sub-specialty fellows and continues to be a QI mentor for faculty and trainees.

    Nationally, Dr Jain has led the evidence-based medicine subcommittee of the American Academy of Pediatrics’ Committee on Quality Transformation on development of 3 guidelines for use in pediatric EDs across the US. She is currently serving on AAP’s UTI Guideline Subcommittee. Dr Jain is co-editor of a special issue of the Pediatric Clinics of North America on the topic of Quality.
    Dr Jain also conducts federally funded research on surveillance for colonization by common bacteria in pediatric ED settings including studies on pneumococcal colonization as well as on improving pediatric concussion outcomes.

    Dr Jain’s steadfast belief in evidence-based practice paired with her tireless support of healthcare resource stewardship culminated in her spearheading the PEM Choosing Wisely list in 2022.
